The Best Places to Shop on Nantucket

I absolutely love to shop on Nantucket for multiple reasons. First of all, there’s a bylaw that bans chain stores from operating within certain downtown parameters, so the small shops and locally owned businesses are abundant and I love to support the local island community. Because of this, Nantucket has held its charm for years and years and shopping there is a pleasure.  Here are some of my favorite places to shop on island, but don’t discount strolling around downtown and popping into any of the shops. And remember, check store hours depending on the time of year you’re visiting as some are limited and some are seasonal:

Nantucket Looms– Nantucket Looms is a downtown landmark. They have been hand weaving beautiful blankets and shawls in their upstairs studio for years, and they also carry swoon-worthy interior decor. I would furnish my whole home in Nantucket Looms if I could. It’s a coastal decor lover’s dream and I can never go in without finding some treasures, including beautiful, original art.

Murray’s Toggery– Murray’s has been an island staple for years. They carry the infamous “Nantucket Reds” for everyone in the family. They also carry many other high-end clothing and accessories brands, including Peter Beaton, which used to have its own hat shop on the island but can now be purchased at Murray’s. You can’t go to Nantucket without a stop at Murray’s.

For Now– One of the most unique clothing and accessories boutiques that I absolutely adore. The owners are personable, creative, and curate the most amazing pieces for their shop. They often have personalization options for their clothing and Lands’ End tote bags, a slew of fun tabletop decor, and more. Definitely stop in here on your visit.

Alice Walk– If you looked in my closet, you’d think it was an Alice Walk showroom.  That’s how much I love their clothing. I have been a fan and customer of theirs for years, and was so excited when they opened their flagship store on Federal Street. This woman-owned-and-run business creates exquisite basics and timeless sweaters and outerwear. The quality is unmatched and their pieces will be staples for years to come.

Centre Pointe– A locally owned, upscale boutique that houses its signature clothing brand, Cartolina, as well as other fashion brands we’ve all grown to love over the years.

Grace Geir– This women’s clothing and accessories shop on the wharf carries lots of favorite brands and is owned by the sweetest woman. I always love popping into Grace Geir to check out the new trends and grab a pair of earrings, a new dress, or a little coin purse.

Peachtree Kids– The best place to shop for little ones. It’s right on Main Street, so you can’t miss it and they carry the most adorable children’s clothing, shoes, accessories, books, and toys. I’ve gotten many gifts here and you’re sure to find something that you love for the little ones in your life.

Assemble–  Assemble is a circular retailer offering an elevated collection of women’s and children’s apparel and accessories. They gather brands and independent designers together to provide a curated assortment of natural, ethically produced, and regenerative products. They only carry brands that are committed to sustainability and unique designs.

Sylvia Antiques– Another Nantucket landmark. If you want to see (or buy!) some absolutely beautiful original Nantucket lightship baskets, sailor’s valentines, hand woven jewelry, and other coastal antiques, do not miss Sylvia’s.

Bon Ton– Bon Ton is a tiny little shop on Cambridge Street and is not to be missed. They carry vintage Nantucket baskets, tableware, art, books, and second hand gems. They prices are great and it’s a wonderful place to grab a unique souvenir. The owner is always there to run and operate it, and it’s a true small shop experience.

Abigail Fox– I was introduced to Abigail Fox on one of my first trips to the island. You can’t miss it if you’re getting off the ferry- it’s the building on the wharf that always has an incredible display of florals surrounding the entrance. They carry women’s clothing, accessories, jewelry, and gifts.

Hospital Thrift Shop– Ever wonder where Nantucket homeowners go to donate furniture, decor, clothing, books, and more? It’s the Hospital Thrift Shop. Sale proceeds go towards medical equipment and services for Nantucket Cottage Hospital, so you can feel good about shopping this abundant, secondhand gem of a shop.

Erica Wilson– If you are a needlepointer like I am, do not miss Erica Wilson. They carry canvases and fibers galore, and often have stitch nights and fun events. They also carry high-end women’s and children’s clothing, shoes, jewelry, and accessories. A Main Street shop that you can’t miss.
Flowers on Chestnut- The most beautiful array of fresh flowers, gifts, tabletop, outdoor, and holiday decor. The inspiration is endless here.

Mitchell’s Book Corner– Right on Main Street, you’ll find Mitchell’s Book Corner.  A book lover’s dream filled with classics old and new, and the place you’ll find Elin Hilderbrand signing books every Wednesday during the summer.

Nantucket Bookworks– The partner to Mitchell’s, Nantucket Bookworks has a wide array of books, an adorable children’s section, and lots of treats. It has the “shop around the corner” feel (IYKYK.)

Four Winds Gifts– The ultimate Nantucket souvenir shop! Four Winds has every Nantucket-themed gift item you can imagine and it’s all designed so well. They have everything from sweatshirts, to ornaments, to jewelry, to mugs and platters, and more. Four Winds is a must stop on the wharf before hopping on the ferry back to the mainland.

Nantucket Clothing Co– My favorite stop for seasonal Nantucket merch. They have great daffodil and stroll t-shirts and sweatshirts for the whole family.

I’m sure I’ve missed some wonderful shops. Feel free to message me or leave a comment if you think I should add any in particular! I hope this is helpful.
