The Best Places to Stay on Nantucket
There are lots of small inns on Nantucket, a few larger hotels, and some in between in size. Here are the places that I’ve either stayed at and loved, or visited and can recommend:
White Elephant– White Elephant is one of my favorite places to stay on island. Its location can’t be beat- right on the harbor with a calm water view, walking distance from town and Brant Point Light, it has a great restaurant (Brant Point Grill,) and it was recently renovated and redesigned, beautifully. I recommend White Elephant for families (they have suites and cottages to suit your needs,) but also for couples who are looking for an upscale spot with plenty of amenities.

Wauwinet– The Wauwinet is White Elephant’s sister hotel and is the only Relais & Chateaux property on the island. It’s not walkable to town, but the remote location makes it a magical spot for a honeymoon, babymoon, an anniversary trip, or couples’ trip. The lawn at the Wauwinet is my favorite place on island to catch a sunset. Its upscale, elegant, yet relaxed feel reflects the charm and beauty of Nantucket. If you stay here, plan to either rent a car or take a cab places. And don’t forget to dine at Topper’s.

The Nantucket Hotel– My other favorite spot to recommend to families and groups. The Nantucket Hotel has everything you could want- a great restaurant, a pool, spa, and amenities for both children and adults. The location is central and very walkable to town, and it’s an overall lovely spot to land on Nantucket. The only drawback is that it’s the only larger resort on island not located on the water. But really, it’s hardly a drawback. Elin Hilderbrand does her bucket list weekends here, too, and wrote “The Hotel Nantucket” based on The Nantucket Hotel.

The Brant– I had an absolutely lovely stay at The Brant over daffodil weekend. I stayed in a 1-bedroom suite that was perfectly equipped with everything I could have needed. It’s small to mid size and housed in a few different buildings, all next to each other. The decor was beautiful, the location is great– quietly tucked into Brant Point but just steps away from town and beaches, and the staff was wonderful. I would highly recommend The Brant for a couples’ trip or a friends’ trip, as well as a solo travel high-end hotel.

Faraway– One of my favorite places to stay when I take solo trips to Nantucket. It’s right in the middle of town, has stylishly updated guest rooms, and a very chic restaurant. It’s small to mid size and situated in a few different buildings next to each other. I’d recommend it for a couples’ trip or a friends’ trip, as well as a solo travel spot.

Veranda House– Veranda House is part of Nantucket Resort Collection and was recently rebuilt after a tragic fire. But it’s back, better than ever, and a great place to stay on island. It’s in a quiet spot in town, and its classic, coastal decor reflects the elegant style of the island. Nantucket Resort Collection has other properties on island too, that are also worth checking out depending on your needs.
Greydon House– This small but elegant hotel conveniently located on Broad Street is a great option for couples or solo travel. The rooms have been beautifully designed by Roman and Williams, and it’s in the heart of town. It also houses Via Mare, a quaint and classic Venetian small-plate restaurant.

Union Inn– I love this bed and breakfast for its traditionally decorated rooms and delicious breakfast (my husband’s favorite part when we stayed there.) I would recommend it for couples, friends, or solo travel. It’s easily walkable to town, very highly rated, and gives you that quintessential quaint but elegant hotel feel.

21 Broad– 21 Broad is located in town in a great, central location, close to everything. It has a modern feel inside, which juxtaposes its Victorian architecture on the outside. The rooms are thoughtfully designed and appointed with high-end toiletries. I especially liked the spa-feel of the shower when I stayed there.
