When I was pregnant with Will and planning his nursery, I was all about the calming neutral tones. So much so, that my handyman asked what we were having when he was installing the chair rail in the room. You can see photos of his nursery here. This time around, I’m feeling like a classic and colorful baby girl’s nursery is the way to go. Of course I still appreciate subtlety in all of my designs so I’m not going to go crazy with color. But I am going to infuse the space with coral-y pinks, French blues, hints of green and yellow, and brass accents. I’m planning to use Benjamin Moore’s Love and Happiness as the wall color, keep the ceiling as-is in Swiss Coffee, and wallpaper one wall plus the sloped ceiling in this amazing Plumed Crest wallpaper. My color inspiration for the space came from this beautiful little girl’s room designed by Studio Mcgee.
I knew I would re-use Will’s crib, dresser/changing table, and glider since they’re in great shape and gender neutral. I was hoping that I could just get a new slipcover for the glider, but unfortunately Pottery Barn changed their Wingback Glider and no longer sells slipcovers. So, it looks like I’ll be custom re-upholstering the glider in a pretty French blue. I fell in love with the idea of pink buffalo check drapes and found these great blackout ones that I immediately put on order. The window in the room is double wide so I’m going to have to sew two panels together. We already have these woven wood shades in Hampton-2 on the window which I love and am going to keep. I’m all about the look of layered window treatments. We have this simple dark bronze drapery rod which will also stay and help balance out the pink drapes and walls. You may have seen on Instagram that I’m knitting a heart blanket, similar to this one, for our daughter. I made one for Will in navy and I’m hoping they will be special keepsakes for our children. I’m still deciding on whether or not to do an area rug and there will be plenty of accessories and finishing touches that will either be changed or are not shown above but I hope this gives you an idea of the direction I’m planning on going with the design. I’m so excited to get started on this classic and colorful baby girl’s nursery!
